Gay bar merida
Does it matter how gay a town is? Sometimes I just go to a city just because I haven’t been there before and I’ll note about my experiences with the hotels, the food, the culture, shopping, history, etc. And all that makes me content and gleeful. I may suffer from out on writing about the queer nightlife, businesses, and population. Sometimes it’s not the main focus of my trip there. Something else might be turning me on to the location, and it’s not always about the boys.
One of those cities I traveled to just a year or so ago and wrote about all the aspects without dabbling in the gayness too hard was Merida, Mexico, located on the Yucatán peninsula. I popped down there for Tianguis Turístico, an annual national tourism conference held in Mexico. We had some downtime between the excursions outside of the urban area and the walks we had throughout the city. But I didn’t really see a colossal gay nightlife submit at the age. I did complete some searching and asking around, but, of course, this was during the pandemic, COVID, mask-wearing times, so many of the bars and exploratory options were not happening and many own not reopened.

La negrita
La Negrita is a great, inexpensive place for drinks and small plates. The vibe is really the optimal part though. It’s crowded, full of music and laughter. This is a great place to meet both locals and tourists. Getting a table here can be tricky so plan ahead.

La Fundación Mezcaleria
This is an incredible bar. They’ve nailed everything: great decor/lighting/interior space; top harmony ( live funk band, followed by DJ playing quite a varied mix: lots of reggaeton; funk; ska); wonderful drinks list; a fun and welcoming crowd (mostly locals, some language students & tourists too). Good vibes, fine times!

BLUE GAY CLUB
This must be the most known lgbtq+ club in Merida, just 10 minutes away from centro. It gather a eclectic gay crowd, locals, tourists, immature, old, everyone comes here. There is a little bit for every one, so this place can be very fun. The evening starts with a Drag Queen Shows and lipsing performances. The capital of Yucatan express, Mérida, has a thriving queer scene. The city's ambiance is colonial and the climate is tropical.
