All About Uncle Milton’s Café in Hoboken

A new LGBTQ+ café arrived in Hoboken back in April. Uncle Milton’s Café, a shop with a specific dedication to being LGBTQ-friendly, according to its owner, had its grand opening on April 30th and has been proudly serving the Hoboken community ever since. The shop is located at 1119 Jefferson Street, which was formerly When in Rome pizzeria. The café serves coffee, breakfast, sandwiches, and provides catering services — and many have seen the owner, Milton Canales, dancing to music outside of his store. Here’s what we recognize about this LGBTQ+-friendly, Latinx-owned café.

What was complicated, he said Saturday — at the grand opening of his first restaurant — was realizing he was same-sex attracted at a new age, while still living in El Salvador, a land he describes as "very homophobic" at the time.

Paying homage to the day the Marriage Equality Proceed was passed in the Merged States, June 26, 2015, the name Six26 was born.  On this day, the United States Supreme Court struck down all state bans on same-sex marriage, legalizing it in all 50 states, and requiring states to honor out-of-state same-sex marriage licenses in the case Obergefell v. Hodges. With a lounge that becomes a joyful and vibrant high-energy lounge and a chill garden-esque rooftop bar as the sun sets, The Six26 venue is always ready to commemorate life and love with all who walk through its doors.
