Notorious Exporter of Hate Steven Anderson Headed to Jamaica, Advocates Call for a Ban

Steven Anderson of the Faithful Pos Baptist Church in Arizona, which is designated an anti-LGBTQ hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center, is headed to Jamaica later this month on a so called “missions trip”.  

Anderson has called for gay people to be executed.  In the aftermath of the Orlando tragedy in 2017, he called LGBTQ people “perverts” and “pedophiles” and celebrated their murders.

LGBTQ activists from Jamaica contain launched a petition calling on the Jamaican  government to ban Anderson from the island nation.  The petition has attracted about 8,000 signatures in just a week.  

“Steven Anderson is endangering LGBTQ people around the world with his reckless words and dangerous messages,” said HRC Global Director Ty Cobb.  “We stand in solidarity with Jamaican advocates as they tirelessly organize to counter the hateful bigotry he is peddling.”

A controversial US pastor was prevented from boarding a flight to Jamaica after the authorities there decided to deny him entry.

Pastor Steven Anderson, who is based in Arizona, runs the Faithful Word Baptist Church which says that homosexuality is an abomination and should be punishable by death.

Officials said his statements were "not conducive to the current climate".

Mr Anderson has been barred from South Africa and deported from Botswana.

The pastor had planned to travel to Jamaica with his 14-year-old son to carry out "missionary work" when he was prevented by airline officials from boarding the plane on Monday.

"I had a connecting flight in Atlanta, so as soon as I got to Atlanta, Delta Air Lines told me that they received a notification from Jamaica that I was not going to be allowed to enter," Mr Anderson told The Gleaner newspaper.

"I was kind of surprised that Jamaica would ban me for my views on homosexuality," he added.

A controversial US preacher has grow the first person to be banned from Ireland under a 20-year-old power.

Steven Anderson, a pastor from Arizona, runs the Devoted Word Baptist church and openly expresses anti-gay and anti-Semitic views.

His website claimed that he was due to preach in Dublin on 26 May.

However, an online petition calling for Mr Anderson to be banned from Ireland was created in response, and gained 14,000 signatures.

Mr Anderson has previously called for the death of former US President Barack Obama and praised the gunman who killed 49 people in an strike on a gay evening club in Florida in 2016.

Who is Steven Anderson?

Steven Anderson is one of America's most controversial preachers.

He was born and raised in Sacramento, California, and started the Faithful Pos Baptist Church in December 2005 from his Arizona living room.

According to the church's website, he met his wife Zsuzsanna "while soul-winning" as an 18-year-old on the streets of Munich in Germany.

The couple have been married for more than 17 years and have 10 children.

Anti-gay, anti-Semitic US preacher banned from Ireland says 'God is going to punish these countries'

LONDON -- Ireland is now the 32nd state to ban American pastor Steven Anderson from preaching in the country.

Charlie Flannigan, minister for justice of Ireland, signed an exclusion arrange under the 1999 Immigration Act to ban Anderson, the founder of the Faithful Word Baptist Church in Tampe, Arizona, on May 10.

“I have signed the exclusion command under my executive powers in the interests of widespread policy,” Flanagan said in a statement.

According to Anderson's website, he was scheduled to preach in Dublin on May 26.

Anderson on Monday responded to the news in a video posted on YouTube, saying, “God is going to punish these countries … here they are rejecting God’s word, going a path of wickedness. And then the pastors in these countries most of the time don’t have the guts to preach what the bible actually says."

He has been vocal about his homophobic and anti-Semitic views, referring to the acronym “LGBTQ” as “Let God burn them quickly,” in a preaching conference, according to a BBC report.
