Gay Naples City Guide

Naples | Napoli

Capital of the Campania region and Italy's third largest city, Naples is the centre of a metropolitan area of over 3 million people.

Situated on the Mediterranean coast and under the shadow of the active volcano Mt Vesuvius that was responsible for the devastation of Pompeii and Herculaneum. It was also heart of the Kingdom of Naples, a region with wide-ranging political and cultural influence.

Nowadays, Naples is known for its port, which is one of the most important in Italy. Despite having a gritty reputation, Naples offers lovely architecture, fascinating museums, great shopping opportunities, fantastic food (Naples was the birthplace of pizza) and a modest lgbtq+ scene.

Naples Gay Travel

Sightseeing: Viator and GetYourGuide are two of the most trusted and reliable platforms for tours and activities.

Flights: Skyscanner has the most advanced interface for finding the lowest-cost flights and comparing options.

Hostels & Apartments: I’ve used Hostelworld dozens of times while backpacking. For vacation apartments, I often find deals on VRBO.

Buses, Trains & Rides: Omio is awesome because it compares literally all modes of transport, including BlaBlaCar rideshares. FlixBus is my go-to for bus commute between cities. Their buses are always clean and have Wi-Fi.

Car Rentals: I have always had good experiences with Europcar. If you’re not sure which rental company you prefer, compare them with Discover Cars.

Swimwear: Look your best at the beach or hotel pool with wolfyy’s advice from top gay swimwear brands.

Luggage: Check out my favorite suitcases, bags & backpacks for modern inspiration.

Travel Insurance: Insure your trip against delays, luggage mishaps, and medical issues with Travelex.

Marina di Licola’s beach in Pozzuoli (Napoli)

The free beach of Marina di Licola is located at the end of the many private beaches equipped with umbrellas and sunbeds. The beach can also be reached by the Circumflegrea (Marina di Licola stop) in Pozzuoli, in the province of Naples. This beach is mainly frequented by gay and trans people, but it is also very widespread with naturists, who can sunbathe and relax here without the risk of meeting curious people. Nearby Marina di Licola there is also a second beach frequented by the Lgbt community, Lido Di Circe. This is a free beach characterized by a dense pine forest, where you can often find gay people for fun.

How to get to the beaches of Marina di Licola and Lido di Circe? From the exit of the Licola ring road, follow the path to Lido Circe, indicated by the signs. From Lido at the end of the street turn left and persist until the last lido. Immediately after, you will find the free beach.

About Naples

Naples' Councillor for Culture and Tourism described her capital quite accurately with these words: ›Naples is a town difficult to scan, which does not offer itself to tourists through conventional codes. However, its marvels, together with the hospitality of its people, never fail to fascinate visitors.‹

Mainstream medias often associate Italy's third biggest capital primarily with the mafia and waste disposal problems. And indeed, many tourists initially are shocked by the dirt, decay and noise in Naples. Easy , well-trodden tourist paths for sight-hopping are rare. But if you are adventurous enough and unlocked for the peculiar you will bring to light a city with quite a scant sur
