Gay mens chorus des moines
The San Francisco Same-sex attracted Men’s Chorus (SFGMC) is proud to announce THE Adore TOUR, which will bring our forceful voices and word of unity to the heartland. From July 7-9, 2024, the 300-member Chorus, under the route of Jacob Stensberg, will travel to Iowa and Nebraska, joining forces with local LGBTQ choruses and advocacy groups at each halt to elevate the Chorus’s mission of transforming and connecting people through song.
In each city of THE LOVE TOUR, the Chorus will be joined by a local chorus and also gleam a light on local LGBTQ+ nonprofits that are investing in advocacy, teaching, and the celebration of our joint queer culture and people. In Iowa City, the Chorus will partner with the Quire of Eastern Iowa, as well as the family of Puck Carlson, the teen who is the lead plaintiff in the fight against bills that goal LGBTQ+ rights in the state. In Omaha, we will join the River City Mixed Chorus and OutNebraska, an organization that invests in advocacy, teaching, and culture. In Des Moines, we will work with Iowa Safe Schools to help produce a fun VIP experience for kids and give them a great age at the concert, where they will share the stage with the Des Moines
The Des Moines Men’s Chorus boasts 40-50 singers who have banded together to sing in back of justice, inclusion, and affection. It is open to those who sing in the tenor and bass ranges, regardless of gender. The chorus was founded by Dr. Randal A. Buikema in 2001, who also served as the Artistic Director until 2005. Its first electrifying performance, given before a standing room only crowd, was filled with the promise of a chance to make real change. Artistic Director and Conductor Dr. Rebecca Gruber came to the DMGMC in 2006 and led the chorus until stepping down in 2020. In 2022, Eric Shepard takes the reins as the brand-new permanent Artistic Director and Conductor.
The DMGMC makes art that the gay community can be haughty of. We trust that our visibility in the arts collective and the community at huge will bring about acceptance and change. The DMGMC is haughty to support Iowans as they work for civil justice in the workplace, in housing, for safety in our schools, and for racial equality. People show up to our concerts for pleasant music, of course, but they also come to declare something important about themselves. Our presence as “the gay organization” has made a difference
